I know, I know… NFTs..

lots of people are only familiar with “Bored Ape” NFTs, those monkey pictures that sell for millions of dollars.

long story short, there’s a lot more to it than that, and the Bored Ape project is a bad representation of the NFT space in general. in reality, NFT and Blockchain technology offers individuals true ownership of the things they buy online!

you’ve probably bought a movie on amazon or other streaming services right? though you paid money for those, you don’t actually own the movie, just an indefinite license to view it. if you ever get locked out of/banned from those streaming services, you won’t ever be able to watch those movies you paid for :(

now, imagine buying that movie as an NFT. not only is it yours forever (because you truly own it), but you could choose to rent it out to people, trade it for other movies, or trade it for entirely different NFTs.

that’s just a basic example of the capability that these things offer. there are tons of different “utilities” and “use cases” for them that corporations and individual artists alike are building right now!

but at the end of the day, i’m mostly excited by the potential this technology has for individual creators. for the first time, creators can monetize their content without going through middle parties or platforms. i envision a future where young creators never have to worry about a studio, record label or publishing company controlling their work.

it sounds too good to be true, but I swear, it’s legit.

My one of a kind “FRYE-rate,” currently owned by @sadierigs.

while currently just a picture, my ability to see who owns this NFT means that I can send them extra stuff for free later. like, suppose, if this cartoon could be a playable character in a video game…
